Our guide provides a simple batter recipe and an easy way to fry the lacy, spiral-shaped cakes.

With an origin dating back to Germany in 1879, funnel cakes have not only stood the test of time, but have also evolved into the finger food that we still crave today. Our funnel cake mix makes a donut-like taste and texture, but are drizzled into hot oil to create a lacy shape that's easily pulled apart and devoured. Once you discover how easy it is to make a batch on your own, funnel cake may just become your dessert and snack of choice.

 Funnel Cake Mix Recipe


 Makes 6 cakes/ 6 servings
  • Peanut oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon double acting baking powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • Confectioners sugar


  1. Before serving, heat about 1 inch peanut oil to 390F in a fryer.
  2. Meanwhile, mix flour, milk, baking powder, salt and egg in a medium size bowl with a wire whisk.
  3. Holding a narrow spouted funnel with a 2 inch spout, close the spout with your finger.
  4. Pour a scant cup of the batter into the funnel. Over the hot oil, carefully remove your finger to let the batter run out in a steam, while making spiral about 6 inches in diameter.
  5. Fry for 6 to 8 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once with tongs. Drain well on paper towels. Repeat with remaining batter, stir well before pouring.
  6. Sprinkle cakes lightly with confectioners sugar, serve warm.
